The Computers are used in a harsh and demanding environment with vibrations, salt water, damp, and high temperature.
The customer has installed six rugged embedded computers from 2 different well-known manufacturers for his evaluation test series. At the beginning, the systems worked perfectly. After a few months there were the first failures and after six months all six computers failed. Fortunately, the finished products have not yet been delivered. The damage would have been costly and loss reputation. What now?
The customer was under extreme time pressure as delivery was confirmed. Looking for an alternative he came across MPL via web search. At first MPL had great difficulty in convincing the customer with our arguments, because he had already heard them from the first suppliers. In addition, the data sheets of the failing rugged computer units seemed to be identical for the customer.
We explained the customer that our higher price guarantees impeccable quality, durability and service. We were able to sell six PIP39 i7 computer units for the new test series. The integration of the computers was effortless, the MPL support and service unparallels. The devices have now been in use for over 18 months without any malfunctions.

The "Formula Student" is the world largest competition for engineers. More than 600 teams of universities from all over the world are currently competing with their self-built racing cars. The students of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich built two racing cars, one with a driver and the other without a driver.
For the unmanned solution, the PIP39-1V1 with a graphic expansion from MPL was chosen as the main computer in combination with our MAGBES switches.

The customer (industry / production engineering) had purchased two PIP 7-11 embedded computers from MPL in 2006. The PIP computer was integrated into the production machine that controlled the system. The engineer remembers that the installation of the MPL computers in 2006 went off without any surprises. If there was any open question, it could easily be solved with the very good user manual from the PIP. At that time he had a very good feeling for the machine that it will produce very well.
The second PIP7-11 was delivered as spare computer for the production machine. The goal was the highest possible availability and guaranteed production quantity of the machine. If there had been a computer failure, the replacement part could have been installed on site immediately. The goal was reduce the downtime of the plant to a minimum and to optimize the production volume. After 12 years of production time, the PIP7-11 computer has never failed.
The question that the machine-builder asked us was, if he can install the unused computer of the year 2006 into a new plant. We recommended to use a new embedded computer of the PIP3x Family.
Certainly MPL is more expensive than other embedded products, but such performance data as described above are nothing unusual with MPL products! If you recalculate the tco (total cost of ownership), the customer has made the best possible choice in the year 2006.
